32548 Spirits, Deities, Gods

The point being nobody with a working mind would accept an order from someone he cannot see but who simple say go and kill your son, Not that he had a clue what God was, good or bad, bad more logical seeing the fact that they had travelled over time from the green pastures of the Lake Van to the desert of the north Negev with no water in sight, that God apparently had told the old man take sacrifice his son, and under the influence of the wine he did so. Then again that God had also told Abraham that was he was on the side of a dessert that it was a land of milk and honey.

The man was Abram later called Abraham and the boy was Isaac. At the last moment in a ruse of a clear head he realised what he was doing, stopped it and indeed slaughter a ram instead. We leave the question where that Ram suddenly came from on top of a hill in a drought stricken land. But the excuse was even more weird, he said he did not really wanted to kill his son but it was a test from God, remember the God that had brought him to that drought stricken land and had told him it was all his.

If we could ask someone from a much earlier time, however, a time closer to that of Abraham himself, the answer might be different, then it would not be an test but a brutal attempt to murder his son.. The usual story we tell ourselves about faith and reason says that faith was invented by the ancient Hebrews, whose monotheistic tradition goes back to Abraham they say which is also a complete fabrication as he had servants in his bed whenever he wanted made the pregnant and kicked them out. Indeed not a very nice man. It did not stop him and his followers even in present time to claim he was the beginning of all.

Never mind that the ME Centre tribes had already cities and science, that, in a completely unrelated series of events, the rationalistic paragons we know as the ancient Greeks invented reason and science. The Greek tradition of pure reason has always clashed with the monotheistic tradition of pure faith, though numerous thinkers have tried to “reconcile” them through the ages. It’s a tidy tale of two pristinely distinct entities that do fine, It was the main reason that the Jewish faith disciples of the man called Jesus went to Greece as in Judea they did not get a foot on the ground and they did not wanted to go the same way as their boss.

A tidy tale, to be sure, but nearly all wrong. Historians have been struggling to correct it for more than a century. What they haven’t done, however, is work out the implications of their findings in a way that gives us a new narrative explanation to take its place. This failure of synthesis may have something to do with why the old, discredited story has hung on for so long in popular imagination. Because we separate faith and reason psychologically, thinking of them as epistemological opposites, we tend rather uncritically to assume that they must have separate historical origins as well.

And to take apart from the musical Porgy and Beth moment’s reflection “it isn’t necessarily so”—and is even unlikely to be so. It’s time for a new narrative about the origins of monotheistic faith, one that’s indebted to recent scholarship, but that puts it together in a coherent pattern consistent with both history and psychology.  The scribes are never described in detail in the Old Testament itself, but analogies with Egypt and Mesopotamia make it clear that there must have been a scribal class, probably attached as civil servants to the temple in Jerusalem or the royal court.

After the exile of the Jewish people in Babylon in the sixth century BC, scribes gradually turned into religious teachers probably during the first century BC though parts of it were certainly regarded as Holy Scripture much earlier than that. But the collection is a work of early Judaism. It should be remembered that for a long time it was a collection of individual scrolls, not a single book between two covers.

Does current scientific data support the theory that the universe was created with intelligent design? Belief in an intelligent designer is a religious theory that has no basis in science. Scientific data supports evolutionary theory, and everyone knows it. “In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth” (Genesis 1:1). “The heavens declare the glory of God; the skies proclaim the work of his hands” (Psalm 19:1).

“A big, fundamental question, like belief in God (or disbelief), is not settled by a single argument, obviously. “It’s too complicated for that. What one has to do is to consider lots of different issues and see whether or not the answers one gets add up to a total picture that makes sense.”

That’s the approach I took in my investigation. I probed six different scientific disciplines to see whether they point toward or away from the existence of an intelligent designer.

When I opened my mind to the possibility of an explanation beyond naturalism, the theory denying any supernatural existence in the universe, I found that the design hypothesis — that says there is a purposeful, intelligent, created order to the universe — most clearly accounted for the evidence of science. Consider some of the facts from my investigation:

Thanks to scientific discoveries of the last 50 years, the ancient Kalama cosmological argument has taken on a powerful and persuasive new force. The argument is simple yet elegant: whatever begins to exist has a cause. Obvious the university had a beginning. Based on the data, virtually all cosmologists now agree the universe began with the suggestion of a Big Bang later shoved aside as other possibilities did enter. But the University does required a beginning. The conclusion then follows from the two premises to concede therefore that it could be possible that the Abrahamic religion stories and Cosmology could be one and the same in a definite moment in time in a flash of light and energy. But then the question does arise: How did we get here? In order to understand how the universe has changed from its initial simple state following the Big Bang (only cooling elementary particles like protons and electrons) into the magnificent universe we see as we look at the night sky, we must understand how stars, galaxies and planets are formed.

There are many questions associated with the creation and evolution of the major constituents of the cosmos. A basic question astronomers must address is, how did the universe create its first stars and galaxies? Once these entities were created, how did they influence subsequent galaxy, star and planet formation? This is an important question, because these later objects are made of elements that can only have been created by the first generation of stars.

It is still unknown whether the universe created black holes with the first generation of stars or whether these exotic objects were created by the first generation of stars. Because black holes represent the most extreme physical conditions of space/time and generate some of the most energetic phenomena following the Big Bang, they are the ultimate physical laboratories for testing theories of the universe.
